PhD in Bochum under supervision of Prof. Achim Trebst, Postdoc in Bonn and Berkeley, guest professorships in Brisbane and Osaka; since 2003 full professor at the Ruhr-University Bochum; head of dept. Photobiotechnology.

Research Interests: Enzyme engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Chemical Biology, Synthetic Biology, Nanotechnology, Nanomachines, Biofuel Cells, Directed Evolution, Green algae, Metabolic engineering of algae and Isolation of Algal Products, Renewable Energy, Hydrogenases and biological hydrogen-production.
